Hello everyone,
I made this snowflake pattern about 2 years ago around Christmas and kept promising myself and all you lovely people that I would write it down soon. This Christmas (finally!!) I present to you the Starflower Snowflake pattern. The pattern, like most of my other patterns you’ll find on this blog, is a quick 3 round design which can be made using absolutely any yarn of your size. I have made this using a 4ply yarn, 10 ply yarn and even fabric yarn and they look equally cute and festive.
Materials
Any yarn and 2 or 3 size bigger crochet hook (I have used 10ply cotton yarn Paris by Drops Design and a 6.5mm hook for the snowflake in the tutorial below)
A pair of scissors
A darning needle
US Abbreviations
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
ch- chain
ch-sp – chain space
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
3ch-p – 3 chain picot
5ch-p – 5 chain picot
2dc’s tog – 2 double crochet together
dc – double crochet
Pattern & Tutorial
Make a slip knot. Ch 4 and sl st in the last chain from the hook to form a circle.
Round 1
Ch 2 (counts as a dc), 1 dc, ch 2. (2 dc’s tog, ch 2) 5 times. Join with a sl st in the first dc made. (see the darning needle in the pic below)
Round 2
Sl st in the next ch2 sp to start this round. Ch3 (counts as a dc), 1 dc, ch 4, 2 dc’s in the same ch 2-sp. (2 dc’s, ch 4, 2 dc’s) in each of the next 5 ch 2-sps. Join with a sl st on top of the first dc made (not the ch 3) in this round.
Round 3
Sl st in the next ch4 sp to start this round.
Ch 2 (counts as a hdc), 3 dc’s, 3 ch-pc, 5 ch-pc, 3 ch-pc, 3 dc’s, 1 hdc in the same ch 4 sp. Make 1 sc between the 2nd and 3rd dc made in round 3. (see the needle below).
([1 hdc, 3 dc’s, 3 ch-p, 5 ch-p, 3 ch-p, 3 dc’s, 1 hdc] in the next ch 4 sp, 1 sc between the 2nd and 4th dc) repeat 5 times. Join with a sl st on top of the first dc (not the ch2 hdc) made at the starting of this round. Break yarn and weave in the ends.
And voila! the snowflake is complete!! 🙂
I made the snowflakes below and on the tree using the Yarn & Colours Must have yarn and a 4 mm hook.
I have not blocked them but I feel a bit of starch and ironing will make them stiffer and more Christmas tree ready, if that’s the look you like. I liked the more organic feel it gave my op-shop tree below so didn’t bother!! (and also I was being lazy….shhh dont tell anyone!!! :D)
Thank you so much to everyone who has been waiting for this pattern for so long. I really appreciate all the lovely, encouraging comments you leave over on my Instagram feed.
I hope you all enjoy making these snowflakes and adorning your trees with them or anything else that feels a little festive cheer this time of the year!!!
If you share your makes on Instagram, then please do tag them using the #starflowersnowflake or #knitpurlhook tag so I can have a look at them.
Here’s to a fun filled festive season and Happy Holidays!! 🙂
And, thank you so much for stopping by.
Love,
Aki.

I found it in a local shop here in Melbourne Australia. I’m sure you might be able to find something similar in the shops where you live.
